BPA's operations are secured by systems designed to ensure the objectivity of analytical data, spill control, and other assurances. In the event of a natural disaster or equipment failure, no unauthorized discharges can occur.
LABORATORY
BPA has chosen to use a third-party laboratory for reportable data. The intent of this relationship is to ensure that all analyses are reported in an objective manner. The laboratory that BPA uses maintains the required certifications and analytical capabilities to run reproducible, reportable assays.
DYKING The entire facility is set on a concrete slab that has been sealed and dyked to ensure full containment of onsite waste. These systems either meet or exceed current state and federal regulations.
WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PROCEDURES
The BPA wastewater treatment/recycling facility has been designed as a batch type processing facility. This design was instituted to prevent the discharge of effluent water that fails to meet the SID permit requirements.
Control of effluent discharge is accomplished by the utilization of a dual tank system. Processed/recycled water is placed in a large holding tank prior to discharge. Once a tank is full, samples are taken and analyzed to insure that the waters meet or are within the SID permit requirements. Following attainment of the permitted requirements, the stored effluent is then discharged to the City of Decatur's Water Treatment Department. As the tank is being discharged, the other tank is being filled for subsequent testing.
If an out-of-specification condition occurs, then the water will be reprocessed to remove the contaminant. Out-of-specification conditions will also trigger a root cause analysis to determine the reason for failing to meet the discharge limits as defined by the SID permit.
